Attractions

On Your Doorstep
Begin your day by taking a gentle 5-minute stroll to the friendly local boulangerie to buy your fresh bread and croissants for breakfast. The village also offers a French cafe (bar) and grocery shop. Another 10 minutes away is the lively town of Guemene-Penfao where you will find a supermarket, indoor swimming pool, canoe hire for paddling along the River Don and pony trekking. Fishing enthusiasts can take advantage of the private fishing lake just 5 minutes away from the cottages. Also close to home why not follow the River Vilaine as it meanders peacefully through the rural countryside stretching for many miles. Take a cycle ride or walk on the accompanying toll path and enjoy a picnic on the riverside.

Towns and Cities
If you prefer a more relaxed way of life why not visit the ancient trading town of Redon where the Nantes-Brest Canal meets the River Vilaine and explore the many shops, weekly open air market and indoor/outdoor swimming pool. Other places of interest include the medieval walled cities of Vannes and Guerande not forgetting the regional capital Nantes, all within easy travelling distance.

Beaches
The nearest beaches are located at the French holiday towns of La Turballe and La Baule, where white sandy beaches stretch for several miles. There are also several lakes with man made beaches and outdoor swimming pools only 15 minutes away.

Further Afield
Why not plan a day trip to the Parc de Pre-Historic or Musee de Resistance or visit the medieval towns of Rochefort-en-terre, Malestroit, and Josselin.

Walking
On your doorstep you can enjoy a gentle stroll through woodlands and small lakes then make your way down to the River Vilaine and follow it as it meanders through open fields and small villages. You could spend a month walking in the Loire Atlantique and Southern Brittany and never cross the same path. There are 7000 miles of paths consisting of 800 walks that make their way through unspoiled countryside, across deep forests, follow grand rivers and along to the seashore. There are over 50 special walking maps from all our local tourist information offices.
Haute-Bretagne Ille-et Vilaine is covered by a network of more than 250 small hiking trails, which generally form a loop and can be completed within 2-6 hours. They will lead you to undreamed of landscapes and monuments, with detours around typically quaint villages. For the more experienced, we recommend the longer GR trails such as the GR37 from Broceliande to Vitre and the GR39 from from Redon to Mont-Saint-Michel.

Cycling
The Loire Atlantique is the cyclists paradise. On your doorstep you have a cycle path adjacent to the River Vilaine, you can follow the meandering river in the direction of Redon and the coast or head North in the direction of Rennes. You can design your own routes using the many rarely used minor roads and cycle past the expanse of meadows and countryside and pass through the local quaint villages. The Fleches de L'Ouest have perfected a number of circuits leaving from Rennes, these include specially marked out routes for the more experienced mountain and hybrid riders (the trails are colour coded to indicate their degree off difficulty).

Fishing
Paimbu is a hamlet situated in a region named Les Trois Rivieres (The Land Of The Three Rivers), the rivers of The Isac, The Don and The Brivet. Also with just a 5 minute stroll from La Cour you reach the banks of the meandering River Vilaine as it flows towards Redon. You can find great fishing lakes only a couple of minutes away at Maison Des Marais, just outside Masserac. You can fish almost anywhere in the Loire-Atlantique or Southern Brittany, on slow rivers or sparkling streams, in deep lakes or on the Atlantic coast. In the fast flowing streams there is excellent fly-fishing for Trout or in the deeper slower rivers the quarry includes Tench, Carp, Roach and Rudd. In the unspoiled countryside anglers fish for tasty carnivores such as Pike, Perch and Zander.

Golf
The Western Loire has 26 courses (17 public) and Southern Brittany has 7. Some are links courses, down by the sea, others are inland in rolling hills, deep in the country. If you are a beginner or with a group of friends who like a bit of a competition , there are courses just for you. The closest golf course to La Cour is in the grounds of the chateau at Missilac only 30 minutes away. Also in the grounds you can take advantage of tennis courts and angling ponds. Other nearby golf courses: Savaney (40 mins) & Caden (1 hour).

Birdwatching
Within a stones throw of La Cour you have the River Vilaine where you can watch the many Herons and hunting birds searching for their food. The best known area is the regional Natural Park of Briere which has 42,000 acres of wetlands to explore, it is an important winter haven for ducks and geese, sandpipers and wading birds. The salt marsh at Sarzeau is an essential refuge for bird life when the tide covers up the mud flats in the gulf. There are also 4 hectares of easily accessible woodland to be explored.
