One of two holiday cottages in a 16th century Breton farmhouse courtyard setting surrounded by large gardens with a heated swimming pool near Lake Guerledan in Brittany. It's the perfect location for a family holiday to relax and explore this beautiful and unspoilt corner of France. At Les Hirondelles we offer you rural Brittany at its most enchanting: an idyllic retreat from the hurly burly of modern life where deer and wild boar roam the forests and fields and all sorts of birds nest in our garden including the swallows which give Les Hirondelles its name, barn owls (Les Chouettes) and nightingales (Les Rossignols). We love it here in our rural idyll: the skies are clearer and bluer - there's no pollution; the grass and trees really are greener; and because there's no light pollution the night sky is very dark and you'll see so many stars that you'll think you could just reach up and pluck one to keep! Your holiday is important to you, and it's important to us to make sure you have a great time. After all, we'd like to see you again some time! We believe that happy children make happy parents so we aim to be family friendly and have a range of baby equipment available at no extra cost, and also play equipment and toys for all ages!
Our beautifully restored 16th century Breton Farmhouse complex is in a courtyard setting surrounded by lovely gardens including our large heated pool and children's play area. We are situated in the rural heart of Brittany in the historic hamlet of Rosquelfen very close to the wonderful Lac De Guerledan in one of the prettiest parts of Brittany, and easy driving distance from the beautiful Pink Granite Coast to the north, and the Gulf of Morbihan to the south. But it's just a 3 minute drive to collect those French breakfast essentials: freshly baked baguettes and croissants, or for the more energetic just a 15 minute walk to Gouarec!
You can stay in luxurious en suite bed and breakfast accommodation (Chambres D'hotes) in our farmhouse or be self-catering in one of our cottages. Whichever you choose you can be sure that we will do our best to make your holiday as enjoyable as we can as we are on hand to help with any enquiries. Our cottages are very well equipped and our heated swimming pool is thoughtfully situated to be easily accessible but it is fenced and gated for your children's safety. For those who want a complete rest from cooking, we also offer packed lunches and evening meals (including barbecues!) by arrangement for our guests. Vegetarians and other diets can also be catered for on request. Here at Les Hirondelles, you really are spoilt for choice!
Our pool is about 36 feet by 15 feet by 4 feet deep. It has wide shallow Roman steps leading down into the main swimming area. These steps are ideal for toddlers and small children to paddle and play in the warm water. It is surrounded by a paved area which is itself surrounded by lawns screened by shrubs and trees for your privacy. There are plenty of sun loungers, chairs, tables and parasols set around the pool. There are also lots of inflatables to play with in the pool as well as a separate small inflatable paddling pool for babies. The pool will be open from 23 May to 5 September 2009.
Included in the price of your holiday in one of our family cottages in Brittany are:

Our gites are both newly decorated and furnished, and offer every modern convenience but in a 16th century setting with lots of stone, wonderful beams and original granite stone fireplaces now fitted with log burners to keep you warm and cosy if you choose to visit us out of season. They also have electric radiators to heat the bedrooms and also the shower rooms. Each gite is fully tiled throughout the ground floor and has pine floors upstairs which are both child friendly. We also welcome long term lets which are ideal for those looking to buy a property in the area: please call us to discuss your requirements. Our gites are Les Rossignols, which is named for our local nightingales, sleeps 5, and Les Chouettes, which is named for our barn owls, sleeps 8.
Exposed beams, thick walls and an air of calmness about the place make this a lovely base from which to explore, or you can relax and laze away the hours in the sunshine by the pool with a good book.
The ground floor of Les Rossignols is a bright and spacious open plan area with a glazed door to the rear garden, and a wood burner set into a huge original granite fireplace, 2 comfortable sofas, English satelliite TV with DVD and video players, music centre, dining table and chairs, and this cottage has a well equipped and fitted kitchen area with cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine. There is a wide selection of English books, videos and board games to suit all ages. Pine stairs lead to the first floor:
Bedroom 1 with double bed, Bedroom 2 with 3 single beds, and a family Shower Room.
The rear door leads to the private fenced rear garden and patio area with table, chairs, sunshade, barbecue and outdoor games. There is a locked gate which opens onto the heated swimming pool and terrace area.
The Gite is fully equipped with cutlery,crockery, kitchen utensils, duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels.

Baby Equipment: No need to bring yours and take up valuable space in your
car because we can provide cot, high chair and baby bath for you; but as
formula milk is expensive here and you may not be able to get your usual
brand, it's a good idea to bring your own supply to the Gites.
Our HEATED SWIMMING POOL is approximately 36ft x 15ft x 4ft and is available from 23 May to 5 September 2009. It has been carefully located near to our Gites and landscaped to be in the sun all day but where there are nearby mature trees to provide that all important shade when necessary. Lots of sun loungers, chairs, tables and parasols are provided plus assorted inflatables for children of all ages to play with!
